Dawn To Dusk 5-A-Side

On March 30th, a 5-a-side football marathon will take place at SETU Carlow from sunrise to sunset to raise money for Head In The Game. The event is the brainchild of three Sports Management and Coaching students Killian Lyons, Anthony Griffin and Jamie De Hora as part of a module, but the opportunity to do something to support a positive discussion around mental health is something that was a priority to all three.

Speaking to HITG, Anthony Griffin said ”We want to associate with Head In The Game to promote mental health awareness in Ireland, especially for those in sport in both casual and competitive environments.”

“On a personal note, I want Dawn til Dusk to be a success in memory of my father Desmond and cousin Fergus who have both lost their respective battles with mental health and depression”, continued Anthony.

Speaking about the event and the decision to partner with Head In The Game, Jamie mentioned “The idea for the event came easy to myself and the lads. Football has been a passion for me ever since I first got involved in a club. Head In The Game was such an easy choice for the event as they have a background in football and dealing with mental health, which is something I can relate to”.

Speaking on his own experiences and how football helps, Killian stated “I have struggled with mental health problems. I’ve played football since 8 years old and coached since 15, and both do the same for me; during the period of time I am at the pitch, I forget all of my problems. When coaching, I try created and environment where although we work hard, we also have fun during the correct moments.”

Speaking about the event, Head In The Game chairperson Dean Arrowsmith said “On behalf of all of us at Head In The Game, we are thrilled to be associated with Dawn Til Dusk. This fundraiser will benefit many, including the participants taking part and will highlight the positive effects the game we all love can have on peoples mental health. We are extremely grateful to Anthony, Jamie and Killian for considering us as partners for the event, and more importantly to their commitment to promoting positive mental health. We look forward to what will be an extremely successful event”.
